If five people need a meeting just to know what's happening, you may have a visibility problem — not a meeting problem.

The observation

Recurring status meetings are frequently a human workaround for a system that does not show the state of work. People gather because assembling the picture manually is the only reliable way to see it.

Why it happens

Work lives across tickets, chat, email, documents and individual memory. No single view holds the truth, so the organization builds a ritual to reconstruct it weekly.

Once the ritual exists it becomes the answer to every future visibility gap, because adding an agenda item is easier than fixing where the information lives.

What it may be costing

• Senior time spent synchronizing rather than deciding.
• Decisions delayed to the next meeting instead of made when the information changes.
• Preparation work that exists only to feed the meeting.

What I would look at

1. 01List your recurring meetings and mark which exist primarily to share status.
2. 02For each, identify what one view would have to show for the meeting to become optional.
3. 03Test it by publishing that view for a month and measuring whether the meeting shortens.
